Dimitris Bakalbassis, a software engineer who works for an evolved social media company, suffers from an anxiety disorder and sees a psychologist. He has come to realize something that at first seemed like fake news: Many, especially young people, keep falling ill to an inexplicable, absolute burnout. Among them is his roommate. Though Dimitris tries to remain functional, his mind collapses while life around him continues. So, he seeks a way out. Jacarandas is a story about the things we do to distract ourselves from reality, which can be insufferable. It is a novel of contemplative searching and slow-burning action.

Foivos Oikonomidis was born in 1997 in Athens. He studied Electrical and Computer Engineering at the National Technical University of Athens and Screenwriting at The London Film School. His poetry collection A Million Days of Sleep in collaboration with visual artist Yorgos Kapsalakis, was published by Hestia in 2022.
