Digitized Journals
and Literary Magazines

The project of digitizing the contents of important literary magazines and the creation of an electronic library was implemented by EKEBI with funds from the Operational Programme “Information Society” (Third Community Support Framework), under the coordination of the Ministry of Culture (public co-financing 75% from the ERDF and 25% from the Ministry of Culture).

The magazines “Nea Estia”, “Odos Panos”, “Planodion”, “Periplous”,, “I Lexi”,  “Oropedio”, “Intellectum” andTo Dentro”were digitized as part of the project. These are the magazines that responded directly to the implementation of the project by granting permission to digitize and upload their back issues, starting from the year of their establishment up to the date indicated by each one of them. 

Nea Estia

1927 – TODAY

Nea Estia is a Greek literary magazine that has been published since 1927. Founded by Konstantinos Sarantopoulos and edited by the author and journalist Grigorios Xenopoulos, it’s the longest-running literary magazine in Greece. 

Odos Panos

JANUARY 1981 – TODAY

Odos Panos is a quarterly literary magazine, with the subtitle “Construction site of exceptional feelings“, published in Athens since January 1981. The editor is the poet and author, Giorgos Chronas. 

Periplous

1984-2003

Literary four-monthly magazine, published between 1984-2003 by Dionysis Vitsos. For the first five years it was based in Zakynthos and then in Athens. Its subscribers were from all over Greece and abroad, and it was available in all bookstores in the country. Each issue sold 8,000 copies all over Greece. 

Planodion

1986 – TODAY

Among the notable literary magazines published in the 1980s, Planodion has a very distinct identity, thanks to some features, unique in the history of the literary magazine press. According to its editor Yannis Patilis, it was an “identity magazine”, i.e. a magazine whose purpose was “the exclusive representation of the artistic and intellectual particularities of the contributors to its publication”, as opposed to the cultural-literary magazine “whose main aim is the general representation of literary production”. 

I Lexi

1981-2010

I Lexi is a long-running magazine (1981-2010) with 205 issues. 

Oropedio

2006 – TODAY

Oropedio was first published fin the summer of 2006, in Nemouta of Foloi, Olympia, by Dimitris Kanellopoulos. 

Intellectum

2006 – TODAY

Intellectum is a biannual journal of reflection containing articles, studies, contributions, interviews and short stories. It was launched in 2006 by the Intellectum Scientific Group and has published nine issues to date.

To Dentro

1978 – TODAY

From its first issue, published in March 1978, “To Dentro“ (The Tree) focused on short texts (poetry, essays, prose) of Greek and foreign literature, as well as commentary on domestic cultural life. Through the “Fylla (Leaves) column, as it was called, it sought to make a kind of intervention in intellectual matters. At the same time, being in touch with foreign, contemporary literary production, “To Dentro“ made sure to publish reviews, information and comments on it in the “Anagnoseis (Readings) column. In time, other columns were created, which hosted articles on cinema, music, theatre and philology.
